LG Chemical plans to build a $4billion petrochemical project in Kazakhstan.

Today, the company announced that it will jointly build a large petrochemical project in Atyrau with Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industry Corporation (KPI), a state-owned company controlled by Kazakhstan's state welfare fund samruk kazyna. The total investment of the project is expected to be about US $4billion. The Export Import Bank of Korea has signed a preliminary agreement with KPI, LG Chemical and Han 3. The equipment will use X-ray International Trade Insurance Co., Ltd. to help finance the project. The project will use low-cost ethane gas to produce 840000 tons/year ethylene and 800000 tons/year polyethylene. It is expected to be put into operation in 2016, with an estimated annual sales of $1.4 billion
